Psyc 465 Make-Up assignment : Fall 2012

Important: This is a make-up assignment, not a general extra-credit assignment. Not everyone can or should do this assignment. Before you start the assignment, please review your final points total (which I will have for you by December 12th) and decide if it's worth doing.

Who can do this assignment?

• If you did not attend the prior extra credit lab experiments, you can do this assignment and get up to 10 points.
• If you already did the prior extra credit lab experiment, then you can only do this assignment to replace your lowest (or missing) pop quiz score up to a maximum of 10 points.

The Assignment

Infection with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, can lead to neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuropsychological symptoms in a subset of those infected. The most severe form of this is called HIV Dementia (also known as AIDS Dementia Complex).

Write a Two Page (roughly 500 words) paper in which you address these two questions:

• HIV-associated dementia: describe the disease and the pattern of symptoms, focusing primarily on neuropsychological symptoms. Describe the pattern of test results you would expect to see (A) on the WAIS-4, and (B) on Trails-A and Trails-B. Length (about 1 page)
• Dr. Janet Mitchell : compare Dr. Mitchell's test scores to this pattern. Decide if her pattern of symptoms does or does not fit the pattern seen in HIV Dementia. (about 1 page)

Turning it in:

All students must submit the assignment via the course website. Please follow these instructions carefully.

1. You will need your CSUSM login name (e.g. "jsmith001" if your name is John Smith) and your Student ID number (a 6 or 9-digit number)
2. Proofread your paper, and when you are satisfied, make sure you save it and then Quit the word processing program (If you don't save it and then quit the App, the last changes you made may not be uploaded).
3. Make sure the entire assignment is in a single file, and that you know which file is your final draft (check the time and date of the file so that you are uploading the right one).

5. When you have completed the upload, you will get a confirmation screen and a Print button. I suggest you print a copy for your records.
6. Note: if you make a mistake, don't worry. You can upload a newer version of your paper. I will only grade the latest one that you submitted.
